About

Every park, trail & historic site in Croton-on-Hudson.

What this is

A map and gazetteer of all 24 parks, preserves and sanctuaries in Croton-on-Hudson, New York, with a researched report on each — history, access, fees, rules and accessibility. The whole site works offline once saved.

An independent community project. Not affiliated with the Village of Croton-on-Hudson or Westchester County. Hours, fees and rules are set by the operators named on each page; where we could not verify a fact, the page says so rather than guessing.

Where the data comes from

Positions and boundaries from OpenStreetMap and public sources — approximate, not survey data.

  • Basemap and geography — © OpenStreetMap contributors, under the ODbL, served as vector tiles built with Protomaps.
  • Elevation — USGS 3D Elevation Program (3DEP), public domain.
  • Trails — OpenStreetMap contributors, checked against Saw Mill River Audubon's published trail maps for the Brinton Brook and Graff sanctuaries.
  • Park facts — researched from the operators' own published pages (Village of Croton-on-Hudson, Westchester County Parks, NYS Parks, NYS DEC, Saw Mill River Audubon, Historic Hudson Valley) and cited source by source in the "Sources" list on every park report.

Take it with you

Parts of the village have thin cell coverage. On the map page, use Save offline: the site stores the map, the tiles and every park report on your device. After that it opens with no signal at all — try airplane mode before you head out.

Your location

The "Show my position" button asks your browser for your location and uses it to answer one question — which park you are in, or how far the nearest one is. Your position is processed on your device and never sent anywhere. There are no analytics on the map, no location logging, and nothing to opt out of. Saying no changes nothing else about the site.

Corrections

If a fact on a park page is wrong — an hour, a fee, a rule — the operators' pages linked from that report are the authority, and we want to match them. Every report lists its sources and the date it was researched.
