Lighted village softball and Little League field at the end of Gerstein Street, behind Carrie E. Tompkins Elementary School. The Croton-Harmon school district uses it as a home field for softball under an intermunicipal agreement and helps maintain it each spring.

The park today

The field sits at the end of Gerstein Street on its southwest side, behind Carrie E. Tompkins (CET) Elementary School, as part of a cluster of village and school fields that also includes the adjacent David J. Manes Memorial Field and the CET field. It is a softball/Little League field equipped with lights for night games, used for baseball and for varsity and modified softball. Field availability and terms of use are handled by the village Recreation Department.

History

Firefighters Memorial Field — listed in village materials in full as the Croton Volunteer Firefighters Memorial Field — is a village-owned ball field honoring Croton's volunteer firefighters. It has appeared in village recreation listings since at least 2000. The date and circumstances of its naming are not recorded in the public sources we could find.

In March 2019 the Board of Trustees (Resolution 46-2019) authorized a five-year intermunicipal agreement with the Croton-Harmon school district covering the field: the district, which uses the village field for girls softball games and practices each spring, purchased and installed a scoreboard, wind screens, fence capping and an infield tarp, and provides additional field maintenance during the spring season. The Board renewed the agreement in March 2024 (Resolution 59-2024), under which the district continues to maintain that equipment and to provide maintenance support each year from March 1 to June 30 in exchange for its use of the field.

Rules
Organized use of the field is scheduled through the village Recreation Department (914-271-3006). No playing on athletic fields when a "Fields Closed" sign is posted. Dogs are prohibited in village parks unless otherwise noted.
